The Chandler Germanium Is The New Black
I used them a ton on the new First Wave Hello record. I even ran a couple of mixes through them – very cool.
For the audio nerds reading this, germanium transistors have quite the history in audio production. Most notably they were used in some of the earliest transistor circuits, such as the Neve 1053, the Neve 1055 , as well as some stuff from Telefunken, Fairchild and the EMI TG12345 at Abbey Road Studios. Like classical music? Well if it was released on DECCA records in the late 50s and early 60s, chances are you’re hearing germanium Neves.
On a side note, we had a birthday party at my pad this weekend. It’s amazing how bad musicians are at RockBand. The girlfriends handed us our asses. Apparently there was a very poor attempt at “Run To The Hills” by myself on the drums. Sorry Iron Maiden. Thank you too all who came by and celebrated with us. Fun was had.
