Jeff Buckley & the art of a vocal performance.
Speaking of singers past, this YouTube video of Jeff Buckley singing Hallelujah showcases his amazing vocal ability. What makes him so unique (besides the haunting tone of his voice) was how good how good he was at actually “performing” a vocal. The majority of the shots in the video are from the actual performance. I can only imagine how multiple “punch-ins” would’ve probably killed his vibe. From what I’ve heard, most of his professional recordings were single take live performances. If you’re short on time, the subtle beauty of his ability really starts showing itself around 5 minutes.
[Edit: The video doesn't seem to want to embed. It actually does exist, but you need to view it directly on the YouTube site. Go here to view it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AratTMGrHaQ ]
